The novel is confessions of the author's own emotional experiences. The leading character Margaret is a beautiful country girl, and moves to Paris alone to make a living. Unfortunately, she is reduced to a prostitute. The crazy love of young Armand whose family is wealthy for her inspires her longing for love, but love in full swing ends suddenly because of his father's objection. Armand doesn't know the truth, thinking Margaret deliberately betrays him, so he looks for every opportunity to humiliate her, and eventually makes her die in poverty and illness with hatred. Plots in the book are vivid and real, language is exquisite and plain, and the feelings are sincere and deep with a real artistic appeal. )
